Privacy
Collect less. Explain what remains.
Australia, Actually keeps its own audience measurement minimal. If advertising is enabled, we explain the advertising technologies in use and give readers clear choices. Privacy questions can be sent through the publication contact page.
Audience measurement
Australia, Actually uses a first party, cookieless counter to understand which public pages are read and whether readers reach 50 or 90 per cent of an article. It keeps only the Hobart date, page path, event type, a broad referral class such as search or social, a compact or wide screen class and an aggregate count. Google Search Console separately provides aggregate information about visits from Google Search.
What is not kept
The audience table does not store IP addresses, raw browser identifiers, full referral URLs, query strings, cookies, persistent reader IDs or fingerprints. Known automated traffic and non-public preview domains are excluded. Daily aggregate cells are retained for 24 months. Exclude this browser from audience counts.
Advertising
Australia, Actually may use Google AdSense to show clearly labelled advertising alongside editorial content. When Google advertising is enabled, Google and other advertising partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure ads, including ads based on a visitor's previous visits to this or other websites. Google's advertising cookies may allow Google and its partners to personalise advertising.
Visitors can manage or opt out of personalised advertising through Google's Ad Settings. Where consent is required by applicable law, we will present the required choice before personalised advertising is used. We do not sell personal information or use our own audience measurements to build advertising profiles.
Infrastructure
Hosting and network providers process ordinary request information to deliver and protect the site. That operational processing is separate from the publication's audience table and is not used by us to build reader profiles.
Publication messages
Email and social messages are used to review and respond to correspondence. The relevant email provider, Instagram or Facebook may process sender or account information under their own privacy terms. Publication messages are not copied into the site's audience measurement table.
Sensitive material
Do not send confidential documents or sensitive personal information through email or social messaging. A secure evidence route will be assessed before accepting sensitive submissions.
